The Skyroom Wedding Photographer
Summer’s sunshine brings about some of the prettiest flowers. And the season is full of sunshiny yellows and oranges accompanied by bright pinks and even blues. But we encourage summer brides not to limit their vision to “classic” summer hues. Let us help you fall in love with a fresh take on a Summer wedding. Red Wing Wedding Photographer Alexandra Robyn shares Summer inspiration photos from The Skyroom Wedding Venue.
Cotton + Joy Creative Co’s original inspiration for this summer wedding were hues of soft yellows and blushes balanced with neutrals and pops of bluebell. The natural greens from our florals really helped to span the full summer color palette – from the warmth of the yellow and blush tones to the cooler toned blues. Early on, we knew we wanted to add an element of femininity and softness that could match our colors. Throughout the wedding, you will see the repeated use of ribbons – from the florals and cake to the napkins and even our table number display. Alexandra Robyn Photo + Design beautifully captured every element of this delicate summer inspiration shoot.

The Summer Florals
The vessels and arrangements are filled with soft-petaled June blooms, including large heads of fragrant peonies, delicate chive blossoms, and late-blooming pale pastel ranunculus. Whimsical accents were added through soft-textured foxtail barley grass and purple vetch vine. Tender and bare stems of the ranunculus, roses, and carnations seemingly float atop the arrangements. They are juxtaposed with delicate, lacey nigella blossoms, queen Anne’s lace, and June-blooming bridal spirea branches. The soft pastels speak of the tenderness of the month of June and the simple bare stems exude an air of lightness and weightlessness that echoes the very essence of the Skyroom wedding venue. The flowers are an extension of the Red Wing forest canopy—you veritably feel as though you are floating atop it.
The Stationery Details
This fine art stationery suite was designed to subtly complement The Skyroom. With delicate and soft details balanced by a modern and clean aesthetic, Meghan Rust Design perfectly captured the essence of The Skyroom. What makes The Skyroom so unique is it truly is a blank slate. The Venue has a modern appeal, making it a perfect wedding location for a modernly elegant affair. The morning begins in the Walsh House, a historic home with vintage charm converted by the venue for a beautiful getting ready space. Meghan Rust’s vision was to combine this modern aesthetic with a delicate twist.
Ribbon is a great way to add a softness to a more modern stationery design, and continue to balance it. When Cotton + Joy began planning, the team fell in love with the idea of Ribbons and Romance. Your seating chart doesn’t need to be traditional. We hung our table assignments from spools of ribbon on a tree near cocktail hour so guests could find their seat – and find a special surprise. This is also a great way to showcase something fun and exciting for those getting married in the summer months.
The Tablescape
No detail is too small when it comes to your wedding day. We encourage you to get creative with your place cards. Once guests located their table, their seat was noted by Cookie Place Cards by Sugardust & Sprinkles. Each of these were hand painted with a watercolor-style technique unique to Sugardust & Sprinkles and adorned with each guest’s name. They are so incredibly sweet and a treat all your guests will love.
We specifically chose a neutral tablescape to allow for the florals to really pop. Investing in florals as your decor will really elevate your wedding into one that’s ‘Style Me Pretty.’
The Cake
There’s little else we love more than cake. And this one certainly takes the cake. We love the idea of a nontraditional wedding cake. Hey There Cupcake designed a “something blue” wedding cake adorned with whimsical florals and ribbon. While White will never be out-of-style, we certainly love breaking traditions.
The Grand Getaway
When the night has come to an end, don’t forget about your grand getaway. We rented a vintage blue Mustang for the couple to ride away in style. There’s nothing more romantic. Not only will you feel extra special as you wave your guests goodbye, there are so many fun ways to plan your getaway. So, from retro to contemporary — how could you not plan a special getaway?
Not to mention, it will give your photographer a chance to capture some truly cinematic shots of the end of the festivities. One of our favorite ideas? Riding off into the sunset, or pulling the bride in for a kiss, in a really cool car. We can’t help but love vintage vehicles for this impactful moment, especially when they are adorned with beautiful decorations for a picture-perfect departure.
